Reset a tripped fuse or RCBO — interactive guide

Find which circuit tripped, fix the cause, and restore power safely.

Note which lights or sockets stopped. A single circuit tripping is normal; whole house off may be a supplier issue.

Unplug kettles, toasters, and heaters on the dead circuit. A short or overload often caused the trip.

💡 Leave the trip switch in the OFF position while you do this.

Use a torch. Modern units have RCBOs or MCBs labelled Kitchen, Sockets, Lights, etc.

💡 Stand on dry flooring; do not touch bare metal inside.

Push fully OFF then firmly ON. RCD master may need resetting too if several circuits died.

If it trips again immediately, you still have a fault — unplug everything and call an electrician.

💡 Persistent trips are not fixed by forcing the switch.
