Set up guest Wi-Fi — interactive guide

Separate network for visitors without sharing your main password or smart-home access.

1

Log into router admin

Connect via Ethernet if possible. Use the gateway IP and admin password on the router label — change default if never done.

2

Enable guest network

Look for Guest Wi-Fi or IoT network. Enable it with a different name (SSID) from your main network.

💡 Guest isolation prevents devices seeing your laptops and printers.

3

Set guest password

Use WPA2 or WPA3. A simple memorable passphrase is fine — rotate after big parties.

4

Limit bandwidth optional

Some routers cap guest speed so streaming guests do not saturate upload for video calls.

5

Share QR if supported

Many apps generate a QR code for the guest SSID. Post it in the hallway, not on social media.

💡 Disable guest network when not needed for long periods.
